Installation hints

• There are two different editions of SerialSniffer available:
  
  • Standard Edition: will not support the virtual serial port, but therefore does not need the installation of any drivers. Can be directly copied to the harddisk and used without installation
    
  • VSP Edition: support the virtual serial port but needs the installation of the corresponding drivers.
    
  Both editions can be found in the installation archive, which also contains the needed drivers and updates for Microsoft Windows, which may be needed for some Windows versions.
  
  
• A detailed installation instruction is included in the ZIP archive of the driver itself (see "Read-Me").
  
  
• Upon installing a newer version of SerialSniffer, you only have to replace the files from the folder of the coresponding edition. There is no need for installing the driver for the virtual serial port again.
  
  
• The driver for the virtual serial port are mandatory starting with SerialSniffer V3.00 for the VSP Edition. The drivers have to be installed prior to starting SerialSniffer. The installation and the usage of the driver is independent of a registration of the module “VirtualSerialPort” and free of charge.
  The Standard Editon does not need the drivers.
  
  
• In case you have an older version of the driver for the virtual serial port provided by “Eltima” installed, you must replace the driver. SerialSniffer will need the driver at version 6.2.
  
  
• If you have moved or deleted the files ("RegVSP.exe", "VirtualSerialPort Register.exe", "VSPort.dll") which are used by the virtual serial driver after registering them, SerialSniffer will be unable to start. Please copy all the files in the SerialSniffer directory and repeat the registration.
  
  
• Depending on your operation system version you may need windows updates. See Read-Me file in the installation archive.
  
  
• The following operating systems are supported (both 32 and 64 bit):
  • Windows 2000
  • Windows XP
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows 7
  • Windows Server 2003
  • Windows Server 2008
